From Application to Successful Move-In: A Valuable Timeline for Senior Housing Applications

Mrs. Xie is a fortunate woman who successfully applied for senior housing with our assistance. Her application journey is quite representative. Let's hear her story:

"I am 63 years old this year! Before the pandemic, my husband and I lived with our son's family. After they moved out, we started thinking about moving into senior housing. At first, we didn't know where to find application information. Whenever we saw an opportunity, we would submit an application. Looking back, from October 2021 to May 2024, we submitted more than 10 applications.

By chance, we met the BAAHSC team. Through the application information they provided, we learned about senior housing in Oakland Chinatown and applied on March 29, 2022. Following the application requirements, we filled out personal information, income information, assets, residence address, and family information, and were placed on the waiting list.

June 4, 2024, is a day I will never forget! The property manager called us to arrange a meeting. We started to feel that we were finally going to have a place to live!

At the formal meeting, we submitted income verification documents (including recent tax returns for the last three months, pay stubs, retirement income, bank statements, etc.), the lease agreement, rent receipts, and information about our current landlord to the property manager. The manager was very responsible and efficient, taking about a month to verify our information.

Then came the most exciting moment! On July 3, 2024, we paid the deposit and signed the lease agreement!

A week later, on July 10, 2024, the property manager handed us the keys!

We successfully moved into the senior apartment on July 11, 2024!

After a wait of 2 years and 3 months, our dream of living in senior housing finally came true!"
